PERSONAL FINANCIAL LITERACY EDUCATION PROGRAM
In researching Financial Literacy, a vast number of definitions were found. To summarize our findings, financial literacy goes beyond understanding how to invest in stocks, bonds and mutual funds. One could be successful in investing in these instruments but fail in other aspects of their personal finances. Therefore, financial literacy must be expanded to ensure a person has the ability to understand how money works in the world. How it is earned or made, how it is managed, how it is invested and grown and how it is donated to help society.
Becoming financially literate is an evolutionary process and includes the need to acquire knowledge in a vast number of subjects including but not limited to budgeting (i.e. planned spending), savings, investing, income creation, taxes, credit, debt, health, wealth building (legacy) and philanthropy (i.e. giving back). This knowledge will help you make more informed financial decisions throughout your lifetime.
FINANCIAL EDUCATION MUST BE FOLLOWED BY ACTION TO MAKE AN ACTUAL DIFFERENCE – SO TAKE ACTION!
TMEG’s Personal Financial Literacy Education Program consists of two components that when used together are a comprehensive easy to use set of tools that will provide you with the knowledge and skills needed to take control of your finances and become “financially literate” for life.
1. Financially Speaking: The Best Improvement Start with Self Improvement 2nd Edition – Create Your Own Economic Stimulus Plan is the first component on the financial literacy program. This book by Michael “Bart” Mathews starts your financial literacy education journey. Throughout the book, Michael shares his personal financial shortcomings and the steps he and his wife took to get their financial house in order. By writing it from a personal perspective, he hopes that others will see themselves in some of the situations and be more compelled to use some of the tips, suggestions and resources provided within his book.
He wants to empower you to “hone” and “own” your personal finances. Let Michael give you the keys to personal financial success. He covers a number of key financial literacy topics and definitions such as debit, credit, taxes, health, etc. that you should understand. Anyone of them can negatively impact your overall financial picture, if you don’t take a truly holistic view of your personal finances. He also includes his own poems to inspire and motivate you along the way. Michael conducts a workshop based upon the contents of this book.
2. You Can Be Wealthy© Coaching is the second component of the financial literacy program. Through our one-on-one coaching programs we will help you incorporate our 7 principles into your daily lifestyle as your road map toward financial freedom. We will help you learn how to Stay Debt-Free, Spend Guilt-Free and Live Financially-Free. We can also assist you with determining your net worth, creating your income/expense statements, creating your spending and tracking plan as well as creating a debt elimination rollover payment plan. And if determined to be necessary, we can provide accountability sessions as well.
